Stock lingo...

Engineered with many of the same wind-slicing technologies as the E-118 Next frame that’s raced by the pros of the BORA-Argon 18 continental team, and crafted from 6105 HM Nano-Tech composite material, the E-116 delivers much of the core performance as the flagship model minus a few bells and whistles. The key difference is that the E-116 frame kit doesn’t include the latest cockpit design featured on this year’s E-118. So if you already have a bar setup that you love, this might be the frame to choose. The integrated frameset package includes the frame, fork, seatpost and brakes.

One of the great things about the front end on the E-116 is its 3D Headtube technology. It lets you run a standard fork and choose from three head tube heights for every frame size. This allows you to dial in your position without adding a bunch of spacers and compromising stiffness or steering precision. You might start out the season with a taller head tube setting, then lower it to a more aggressive position as you build up your flexibility and strength to stay in a lower aero tuck.

That’s just one of the ways that the E-116 can adapt to your riding style and preferences. The aero-shaped carbon fiber seatpost is reversible, easy to adjust, and light weight. The internal cable routing accepts Di2/EPS electronic wiring or mechanical drivetrain cables without any added parts or adaptors.

The internal cable routing accepts Di2/EPS electronic wiring or mechanical drivetrain cables without any added parts or adaptors.

Once your positioning is dialed in, it’s time to think about aero performance. The E-116 was engineered and developed based on the notion that the rider accounts for about 70 percent of total drag. So, through the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics software plus wind-tunnel testing with an actual rider, the designers focused much of their efforts on improving the rider position to achieve less drag and stability.

They lengthened the chainstays and lowered the bottom bracket, which allows the rider to sit lower on the bike, improving both aerodynamics and stability in cross winds. The result, Argon says, is efficiency gains of 5 to 20 percent depending on wind angles compared to its predecessor E-114.

Like all Argon 18 bikes, the E-118 Next carbon fiber frameset also features the Horizontal Dual System (HDS) design principle, which essentially divides the frame into two zones—the super stiff power zone in the lower sections and the more compliant, vibration-damping areas in the upper sections. This is achieved through strategic tube shapes and also layup schedule of the carbon fiber.

The E-116 frameset has a threadless BB86 bottom bracket shell, and this kit comes with powerful TRP V-brakes that are fitted flush with the frame and fork and hidden from the wind. And while it’s certainly optimized for triathlon, this frame is also fully UCI legal if stage racing and time trialing are on your race calendar.
